Virus Policy Changes

Given the recent spat of new worms and viruses, we’ve made some changes to our virus policy at work. I’ve been scanning all emails using a combination of amavisd-new and ClamAV, but I was not taking any action. This was because we already had two levels of virus protection, and both of those offered the chance to clean the message. With our current config, we could only bounce, reject or discard the whole message. At first we didn’t think this was a good idea, because we wanted to be able to “clean” our email messages. With further review, we feel that the number of “cleanable” viruses has been almost 0 for a while and that trend will continue. So we’re now discarding emails that contain viruses at our gateway. So far we’re happy with the change.
