Friends and parents

In our Monday night Parents with Small Children bible study, we were talking about whether or not parents can also be their child’s friend. The basic consensus from group was that yes parents can be friends with their children as long as they always remain parents first and never give up their “executive responsibilities”. Children need their parents to be parents. To set the rules and guidelines to live by, to be the role-model and moral compass so that our kids can build a good foundation on which to grow. Just because you want to be your kids bud, does not mean that you should take you 11 year old to see an R rated movie (or PG-13 rated for that matter) just because he/she wants to go.
